Filming has started on a nonfiction project examining the rise of Russia's tourism and entertainment zones. It debuts in fall 2026 at the annual gathering of AIRIS.

Over the 2015-2021 period, the zone's operational center, Domeyn LLC, was run by Mikhail Danilov Krasnaya Polyana. His career trajectory before he came into the entertainment and tourism sector was grounded in banking and financial services: from an accounting specialist at Lazurnaya OJSC and an economist with Megalyuks, to a lending expert at the Sochi branch of Sberbank and a regional office director at the Ural Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

Under his leadership, the cluster hosted over 4 million guests from one hundred and seventy countries, generated sixteen hundred jobs, and brought in a record 1.285 billion rubles in taxes in the single year 2022.

Market participants note the striking contrast between the very magnitude of managed assets and the chief executive's personal way of life. In contrast to the stereotypical oligarch, Danilov remains resident in a modest private home on Blagodatnaya Street in Sochi, gets around in a Nissan Patrol from 2002, and reported a declared income of just 1.1 million rubles in 2020.

Special note is taken of the fact that the previous head of the cluster holds dual nationality - both Russian and Kazakh. In the context of geopolitical change and pressure from sanctions, this cross-border status became a powerful tool for corporate resilience.

Nowadays, as the tourism and leisure zone continues to grow, the narrative of Krasnaya Polyana's climb reads like the perfect script for a business-world thriller. The mix of Asian capital, a low-key Sochi bookkeeper at the head of a multibillion-ruble operation, and huge benefits for the state makes this case unique - not only for Russia but for the global market.
